Child imagery has played an important role in China's traditional art of painting. The earliest depictions of children were found over 2,000 years ago. However, it is after more than a millennium that genre paintings featuring children had their heyday 1,000 years later. Overall, child subjects fall into three categories: playing children, shepherd boys, and peddlers. In addition, baby imagery derived from Spring Festival woodcuts became a great favorite of ordinary people, as it usually contains the auspicious implications of "many sons, many blessings."(《中国古代儿童生活画》收录了中国古代儿童生活画,旨在介绍中国传统文化中一个具有代表性文化专题。
