Gr 1-3-While the end productsfrom pop-up cards to heart basketsare not spectacular, these eight crafts are simple to complete, with easy-to-follow instructions. A color photo of the finished piece is included. The book opens with a two-page history of Valentine's Day; brief notes on the holiday symbols and traditions (cupid, hearts, lacy cards) introduce the projects. These standard crafts, which allow for minimal personal touches, would be usable in a classroom or group setting."G. Alyssa Parkinson, Highland Township Library, MI"

Grades 2-5 If there was ever a holiday that was perfect for a crafts book, its Valentines Day. Thisbrief volume opens with an introduction to the holiday (though it states some speculation as fact) and then proceeds to the various projects, which include a cupid, heart sculpture, andlacy heart card. Several of the projects use patterns that can be traced from the book. Author McGee is a paper artist, but for the most part, the craftshe offers are simple enough to execute. Scissor work is necessary, especially in the Lacy Valentine, and inthe DanishWoven Heart Basket, somemanual dexterity is required.McGee offers a little historical perspective on some of the projects, and ashort list of books and Web sites completes this entry in the Paper Craft Fun for Holidays series.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2008, American Library Association.)

A short introduction offers an overview of the holiday's celebration and the history of valentines. The following eight crafts mostly involve cutting paper into various heart shapes, plus some gluing and taping. Assembly directions are more complicated than the relatively unexceptional results would seem to require. Patterns that need to be copied and enlarged are provided. Reading list, websites. Ind.
